Bloomsburg Falls in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team placed four players in double figures but it wasn't enough as the Huskies fell to West Chester, 83-70, Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

The Huskies held the early lead in the game at 5-1 before the Golden Rams rallied and went in front 17-9 with 13:50 left to play in the game. West Chester would later stretch the lead to 19 points, 43-24, just before halftime before going into the locker room leading by 16 at the break.

West Chester took its largest lead of the game, 62-40, with 10:46 to go in the game. But, Bloomsburg would rally and when Kait Urban (Johnstown/Westmont) drained a three-pointer with 2:07 to play, the Huskies were within 11 at 70-59.

However, the Golden Rams went 9-10 from the foul line in the final two minutes of play to hang on for the nine-point victory.

Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens) paced the Huskies, now 6-20, 3-8 PSAC East, with 16 points, while Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) and Kirby Johnson (Woodstown, NJ) each added 15 points with Laura Lyons (Hatfield/Pennridge) chipping in with 10.

Dominique Lewis led West Chester, now 10-17, 7-5 PSAC East, with 26 points, while Elsie McCloy added 22 points.

The Huskies close out the 2005-06 season on Saturday at Millersville starting at 1 p.m.
